Teaching French Thru Songs and GamesTeaching French Through Songs & Games

About

I earned a BA in Theater and Music from UQAM (l’université du Québec à Montréal) and a graduate diploma in Early Childhood Education from U of C. I have been an Elementary school teacher with the Calgary Separate Board for over 17 years, primarily in French Immersion. I have experience with all grades K-6, as both a homeroom teacher and as a Music specialist. Over the years, I have seen firsthand how much easier it is for children to learn a second language when vocabulary is presented through song and rhyme. I have also witnessed children’s enthusiasm for learning blossom when singing is incorporated into the lesson plan.

In November 2004, as a way of building a legacy of everything I had learned during my years of teaching, I produced and published a teacher resource guide and CD entitled “Teaching French Through Songs and Games…Even if you can’t sing ….or don’t speak French”.

I have been nominated for both the Pan-Canadian Student‘s Choice Award and the Excellence in Teaching Award.

I continue to pursue my passion in Music through giving private and group voice lessons to teenagers and adults.

My adult voice lessons are based on my training in theatre, and on the work I’ve done for over 20 years in the area of integrative body work. While in Montréal in the 1980’s I pursued classes at “Le Centre de l’approche globale du corps”. (The global approach to the body centre). Since 2000, I have been part of Judith Koltai Peavey’s “Masterclass”.

My shamanic work over the last few years continues to inform my understanding of “voice” and now places my technical voice work in a spiritual context. It also has expanded my own intuitive ability to listen, allowing me to sense where vibration needs to go to support vocal opening.

More than anything, I believe that singing builds self-esteem, is a source of joy and brings us closer to our true selves.

You were meant to sing. Begin to find your song today.
